High School football notebook: Edmond Santa Fe beats Broken Arrow

Caleb Bielamowicz worked on his alignment for kicks from the hashes in practice this week.

For Edmond Santa Fe's senior kicker, it paid off. Bielamowicz drilled an 18-yard field goal with 2 seconds left to give the Wolves a 23-21 upset victory at Class 6A-I No. 2-ranked Broken Arrow. Santa Fe star sophomore receiver Talyn Shettron caught a 33-yard pass up the right sideline to get to the 1 before the winning field goal. Shettron also caught a pass on fourth-and-5 earlier to keep the drive alive.

"That's the biggest pressure kick he's ever had at Santa Fe," coach Kyle White said of Bielamowicz's winning field goal. "One of our coaches just happened to work with him on his angles from the hash, and it paid off."

Broken Arrow running back Sanchez Banks scored a touchdown with 1:27 left to help give the Tigers an advantage. When Santa Fe (5-2, 3-1 District 6A-I-1) got the ball back, the goal was just to get into field goal range.

Shettron finished with eight receptions for 159 yards. He holds offers from Arkansas and Oklahoma State, but he's bound to have plenty more as his career progresses.

White said after an early district loss against Yukon, Santa Fe refocused its approach and zoned in on focusing internally. He preached to his players this week about getting the chance to go to the house of the defending state champions to play. They... Click here to read full article
